This achievement is noteworthy as it underscores the Kenyan passport's superior standing to neighbouring countries. In the same ranking, Tanzania finds itself slightly behind at 69th, while Uganda and Rwanda are ranked 73rd and 76th, respectively. This distinction highlights Kenya's growing influence and mobility on the global stage.

The Dynamics of Global Passport Power

At the pinnacle of the passport power rankings for 2024, there's a six-way tie, a rare occurrence in global travel document standings. This top spot is shared by France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain, whose citizens can now enjoy the freedom of travelling to a record 194 destinations without a visa or visa-on-arrival access.

This year's rankings have seen a remarkable shift, with the Asian nations of Japan and Singapore, which have consistently held the top position for the last five years, now sharing the spotlight with four European countries. This change indicates a significant resurgence in European passport power.

Finland and Sweden are close behind in second place, enjoying equal standing with South Korea. Passport holders from these countries can access 193 destinations with ease. Following them are Austria, Denmark, Ireland, and the Netherlands, all tied for third place with access to 192 destinations.

The fourth position sees a tie between Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, the fifth spot is shared by Greece, Malta, and Switzerland.

The rankings also bring good news for Australia and New Zealand, which have improved their positions, now tying for sixth place alongside Czechia and Poland. Finally, in conjunction with Hungary, the United States and Canada find themselves in a joint seventh position, granting their citizens visa-free access to 188 destinations globally.

The Henley Passport Index, which has been meticulously tracking global travel freedoms for the past 19 years, offers an authoritative, yearly ranking of the world's passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.
